West Texas Historical Review - Submissions

Call for Papers for the West Texas Historical Review

The West Texas Historical Review (formerly the West Texas Historical Association Year Book until 2014) is the one-hundred-year-old official publication of the West Texas Historical Association. Established in 1925, the WTHR annually showcases scholarship on West Texas history. Any topic is welcome, as long as the central geographic focus is any area of Texas predominately west of I-35.

The WTHR accepts rolling submissions. To be included in the year’s journal, articles must be submitted by August 1. Articles submitted later will be placed under consideration for the following year’s issue. Authors will be notified upon completion of the peer-review process, typically in the early fall. The WTHR is sent to print in the spring of the following year to be disseminated to members at the annual WTHA meeting. Issues are mailed to WTHA members unable to attend the meeting in the late spring. Information on back issues and procuring copies can be found https://wtha.wildapricot.org/WTHR .

More information on formatting for possible publication in the WTHR:

    • Submitted papers should be approximately 15-20 pages in length, double-spaced, with end notes in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx file type).
    • Please note: we do sometimes accept shorter articles for publication in the WTHR but can also help find suitable publication venues for articles that don’t always meet the criteria. If your article is significantly longer or shorter than the above requirements, email the Editor for options.
    • Grammar, punctuation, and end note format should follow the guidelines of the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition. https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html
    • Digital copies of submissions may be submitted by email to the Editor (contact info below). No physical copies are required. Please ensure the entire article (title, article text, and end notes) are included in a single word file.
    • Also include a short (1-3 sentences) biography that includes name, position/occupation, and institution and/or residence. If your article is accepted for publication, this biography will be used in the journal.
    • If you would like images to be included in your article, you must ensure you have permission for republication in our journal. Please let the Editor know at the time of submission of any possible images and their appropriate captions and attributions.
    • Submissions will be included in a peer-review process, where they will be assessed in regard to their applicability to west Texas history, as well as their scholarly merit. Authors will be notified of submitted papers’ acceptance, rejection, or suggested revisions for re-submission in the late fall.

Address all article submissions and related correspondence to Dr. Elissa Stroman, Editor, West Texas Historical Review, elissa.stroman@ttu.edu
